Each borough now has their own Prospectus. So if you're thinking about studying somewhere else - Doncaster, Rotherham, Wakefield, Sheffield - you can use the Barnsley Prospectus to get information on other areas. On the Barnsley Prospectus home page there is a section "change area". Here you will be able to find other Borough Prospectuses.

Applying for Post 16

Most students in Barnsley are making their own applications using the Common Application Process (CAP). Applications for school and college courses and apprenticeships with work based training providers in Barnsley are now made using CAP. It's very easy and simple to use. An online application form is filled out and then sent off to the chosen organisations. Replies are then sent directly back to the student. The providers you apply to will contact you through the CAP or write to you at your home address or phone or text you.  So please make sure that details of your address and phone number are up to date.

If you're school is not using this, don't worry, you'll just need to complete a paper based application form in the usual way.

If you want to apply for a job, please look at/click on the Job Information section. This section also has lots of hints and tips about making the best applications you can.

Travel

When choosing your next options after year 11, you'll need to find out where places are and how to get to them.

In the View Provider section on the Prospectus you can find out where schools, colleges or work based training providers are based along with venue maps.

Higher Education (Post 18) applications

If you're thinking about applying for a higher education course, you'll need to plan early and make your application through the 'University and Colleges Admission System' (UCAS). All applications are made via the UCAS website, just click on 'apply' when you are in the site.

The site provides you with information about which courses are available at which places and the grades you need to achieve in order to get a place. It also has information on financial support available while you are studying.

For Nursing and midwifery diplomas you'll need to apply through The Nursing and Midwifery Admissions Service (NMAS) - Nursing Degree courses are handled by UCAS. You can make an application through both systems at the same time.

Applications to Art and Design courses are through UCAS but if you are doing a one year foundation course you will apply directly to the institution of your choice.

The application process normally starts in September a year before you would want to start at university, all the key dates are on the UCAS website.
