Employee engagement

Employee surveys

We value your opinions and encourage employees to be involved in service improvement and changing the organisation. To capture this enthusiasm, we conduct a regular employee perception survey and develop action plans to address areas for improvement.

Employee groups

Our workforce should be as diverse as our local population. Consequently, we’ve already taken huge steps towards gaining a better understanding of the experiences of employees from various backgrounds and communities. To continue this, we’ve employee equality groups, dedicated to helping us to remain an equal opportunities employer in several ways:

  • Considering new Human Resources policies and procedures to make sure that the needs of all our people are included
  • Discussing how we continue to promote a working culture and environment that’s free from bullying, harassment and discrimination
  • Advising the council on how it could make working practices even more accessible and inclusive
  • Providing mutual support and encouraging employees from all backgrounds to get involved

Network ONE

Network ONE has been set up to support and guide people who are in the early stages of their careers, either at Barnsley Council or in local government as a whole.

Through the Network ONE forum, events and short courses, colleagues can get to know their workplace and peers better, and receive expert guidance on the best ways to further their career in local government.
